According to Zbigniew Chojnacki, he can be inspired by a washing machine or an empty chair in the middle of a stage. Or an old accordion, surrounded by effect pedals, loop machines and other landmines of sound.
This is the set-up that the Polish musician currently uses to generate new ideas and truly unexpected sounds. Often dismissed as a sort of “folklore jukebox”, Pauline Oliveros has already demonstrated the possibilities hidden within the humble accordion. In Chojnacki’s hands, the instrument is in a permanent state of metamorphosis. At one point, it seems to be a cross between a typewriter and a bellows. At first meditative like an endless drone, then exhilarating like a washing machine drum during a spin cycle.
